Criteria D

Testing the animations:
I chose a student in the class to test my product and check if it works properly. The student first checked the organ systems animations. After checking the animation without stopping, the student watched it all over again to see if it is meeting a list of things that has makes the software successful. I gave a list of things to the students and he checked if these things met the standards. The list included: Background changes, talking sprites, If the sprite is in the right positions, if the broadcasted messages are being receives and etc. All of the things in the list worked. So this shows that the first animation was successful. Then the student checked the second one and to observe if the details in the quiz. Like before, I make a list of things to check to see if they were working. Then the student checked if the these things worked. Things in the list included if the questions were shown, if each of the option can be clicked on, if there is a score in the end, if the music plays properly etc. All the things on the list was succesful. I wanted to see if the animations work from different viewpoints, so the Ms.Lubnah (my interviewee) also observed both the animations and checked the things on the list. All of the things on the lists were successful.

Improvements:

  • I could have had audio the organ systems animation and the quiz. This will make the audience more engaged and would also give them a better chance to understand the information since it would be stuck it in their head.
  • For the quiz, I could have made the questions timed. This would be better for the students to improve their time management skills.
  • For the quiz, I could have could have made the theme and backgrounds more colourful. This will attract the students.

Impact on the audience:
  • The students will enjoy learning more since both the animations are very interactive and educating.
  • The quiz will refresh the student's mind and would also be great as a revisions for and assessment.
  • Teachers can use these animations to help their students and to make the student's learning more engaging and fun
  • Teachers can use this for students with special needs as its is very easy to understand.
  • All students of any kind of level of knowledge could use it to broaden their knowledge and understanding about organ systems.
  • Students all around the world who have access to the internet can use this to study about organ systems.
  • These can help teachers to find another way of teaching other than using books

Criteria C

GANTT CHART

PROCESS TO CREATE MY ORGAN SYSTEM ANIMATION

1.

I used the burger as a curser to click each part of the digestive system. I made the burger hide in the other backgrounds except the  digestive system background. I did this by broad casting a message and then command hide, this will make the sprite hide in the unnecessary backgrounds.  This is for the burger sprite that is a curser for the digestive system. Every time I click on each organ of the digestive system the reindeer would say the function of it. If I click the sprite and the sprite is touching the color of the organ then the reindeer would the function of each organ.

2.

This is for the monkey sprite during the first conversation. As you can see the monkey starts the conversation and then waits for the other character to speak and then the monkey replies.  then I sent a broadcast with a command to hide. This is because the character should be present when the background changes into the menu.

3.

This is the dialogue for the polar bear called Fluffy. The character has to wait for the other character to speak and then replier. I found the conversation coding very easy. but, I had to be aware of the timing. I then I broadcasted a message for the sprite to hide.

 4.

As you can see when the sprite that is clicked on each organ will broadcast a message to the reindeer sprite. When the reindeer sprite receives the broadcast the reindeer will say the function if the organ in a specific amount of time.

5.
The is a coding for another sprite which is a curser for the respiratory and skeletal system. when the colour of each organ is clicked the message will broadcast to the reindeer.  When the message is received by the reindeer the sprite will mention the function. When the backdrop switches i dont want the sprite to be present to I added hide when backdrop switches.

6.
When the curser clicks the go back to menu box it will go back to the menu that shows the different organ systems to choose from. I put when sprite is clicked, if the curser is touching the  colour of the menu box then switch backdrop to the menu.

MY ANIMATION AND QUIZ

Criterion B

Design Specification

Aesthetics
The format of the animation is going to be a structured layout. Thee text and writing is going to use colour and bold fonts. Labeled pictures of different organs are going to be used to make it easier to explain information. The background of the animation is going to be a bright colour so there is a contrast between the font and the text, since the text is darker. The layout of the animation and the quiz is going to have an introduction between 3 friends and then it is going to get into depth to the different body systems.
Cost
This quiz and the animation is free and has no payments. I decided to make the quiz and animation free because I want everyone to use my animation in or outside the school. It is also good if the animation and the quiz is free because not everyone is going to pay just for one animation/game.
Customer
The main target audience would be the year 5 students from the age group of 9-10. But then my secondary or my alternative audience would be any other students or children who would like to use it for educational purposes. Teachers could also use it to help their students to teach. My other main target customer is Ms. Lubnah.
Environmental Considerations
We must be careful when using the laptop because a lot of energy and electricity is consumed.
Function
The function of the quiz to help the students of 5LI to make the topic easier to understand. The purpose it to make the topics more fun and engaging by using different teaching styles like technology and visual representation. This will make their leaning more easier and simple to them to comprehend and understand. It is going to be used through the desktop or a laptop on the software called scratch on the internet.
Manufacturing
The animation and quiz will be produced on the laptop and It would take minimum 2 weeks to create the animation and quiz.
Materials
I will be using my primary and the secondary research to building and developing my game and quiz. I will be using the scratch software and the internet since it’s the main foundation to create the quiz and animation.
Security
I will be officially publishing my quiz and game when I’m finished with them. I will also make sure that the laptops and desktops used to make sure there is no virus or cookies so the laptop/desktop doesn’t crash or freeze.
Features
The features of the game and quiz are very straightforward and simple. The quiz would be multiple choice questions and is going to be timed. There are going to have 4 options and the hard questions are 30 secs but the easier ones are 20secs. The quiz and the animation is going to be entertaining and encouraging.

Designs/Sketches for Animation

Design 1:

Design 2:

Comparison

The Quiz:
The layout of design 1 is more full and has more text. However, I like this because there is a character that introduces the audience to the game and talks about the general rules and features of the quiz. This will give the audience a brief understanding of types of questions included in the quiz. In design 2 there are no characters or any introduction. It is very straightforward and simple since it has a menu with different options. So, the game is more of a visual. Whereas, design 1 will have an audio when a character speaks or  question is asked. The layout of 2 is more spacious and spread out which doesn't really appeal to the eyes. Both designs are going to be multiple choice questions and is going to be timed. The multiple choice questions will make it easier for the students to choose the answer and will also develop their decision making skills when there is a confusing question. The timed question will help the audience to improve their time management skills. I would choose design 1 over 2 because design 1 suits more of the purposes than design 1.

The Animation:
Design 1 has a conversation in the beginning between 3 friends who discuss a little about each topic (digestive system, respiratory system and skeletal system). Then it goes into depth about each topic with diagrams that are labeled and show the process of how the system works. Design 2 has a many and you just click into each topic and it goes into depth with a diagram that is explained. In the conversation of design 1 I will be recording dialogues to play each character. Both of the designs will be using bright background with bold fonts. I decided to use design 1 for my animation because it is more visually engaging than design 1. I also like design 1 better because it it more fun because there is a conversation so it is kind of like a video or like a TV show. TV shows or videos are normally enjoyed and like by kids.

How Am I Going to Test it?
I will be testing it by using different type of gadgets like a phone, laptop, desktop and iPad. This will give me an idea of  if I have to stick to one type of gadget. It would also be good if I check if it works in different types of conditions. I would also like to check if it works in different speeds of internet. I will also be writing a clear, descriptive bug report. I will analyze my results thoroughly. I will write tests for codes that isn't covered. Write tests for code that you don't understand. Write tests before you fix a bug. That way, the bug will stay fix.

Criterion A- Inquiring and Analysing

Design Situation

I decided to create a science quiz and lessons for year 5 students. I will be using the software scratch to create my product. This will help children enhance their prior knowledge. Children generally get bored with the same routine of writing in their books. However, my animation would help children with being more engaged while learning. It will not only help to gain knowledge but it will also them a broader understanding of the concepts they are learning. There would be a proper lesson on their subject and after their lesson the children will be taking a quiz.

I wanted to solve one of the main issues and the issue was that students don't focus and concentrate on their work when writing or just reading. So my intention is to make their daily studies more engaging and fun. Using visual representation like videos, animations and games would keep the student alert while learning. Utilizing technology for studies can give the students a chance to interact with their classmates more by encouraging collaboration. It is also a great way to introduce student to different and diverse learning styles.

My target for this product is going to created by using scratch and my target audience are students from the age group of 9 to 11. I have decided that I would be creating the lessons for year 5 but I think it can be used by year 6 or 7 even though they are not my target audience. Year 5, is the time when you are introduced to science and i think that some children might not enjoy or they might not understand the information that they are learning. However, my lessons would be easy to understand and comprehend and it would also be more appealing and fun to learn.

Primary Research Plan

Secondary Research Plan

Primary Research

Hello, my name is Kalyani I am studying in grade 9 in EISM. I have sent this email regarding to one of my ICT projects. My project is about a animation on skeletal system, Respiratory system and the digestive system. I will be using a software called scratch and this will be helping me to make the animation. Here are some questions that I would like to inquire about, to get a broader understanding of how the production process of my animation should be.

1. What topics do you teach in the subject of UOI?

Example of an Animation on Body Systems:

Tools Used to Create my Product

I will be using scratch to create my animations. Scratch has all the forms of editing to create my product. For example, it has background changing, costume changing and adding sounds and visual representation and much more. If I have to compare this to other softwares, i think scratch is one of the best. For instances, the software called yoyo game-maker is a very good software to create video games. However, it is a paid software and also it more harder to use. In the other hand, scratch is very easy to use and has all sorts of components to create a game or an animation.

I will also be using primary research. For my primary research I conducted and interview with a year 5 teacher called Ms.Lubnah. I also did a questionnaire for her class. The interview consisted of 11 questions. This helped me get and understanding of what topics and contents I should include in my animations. The interview also gave my an understanding of what the teacher is expecting and how to make the student's lessons more interesting. The questionnaire was asked to the students consisted of 4 simple questions. I was trying to find out what the majority of the student's prefer. I think primary research important because it a perspective of an expert other than yours.

I will also be using secondary research. I have researched videos for the topics respiratory, digestive and skeletal systems. From my point of view, I think that videos are one of the best resources to use while researching. It makes it easier and more visually appealing. Whereas, books and websites can be a bit boring and less attractive since they are more time consuming and have large texts of information. In the other hand, videos have the main point on that particular topic and is more easier to understand. Although, videos can be less accurate than books. Unless, the video is created by an expert. I also researched examples and tutorials to get a better understanding of the process to create my animation. Videos are more easier to follow than websites when creating your animation.

Logo of my Company

I made a logo for my company. This will make it easier for other people to find my animation on scratch in case the person using the animation is not my main target audience. I have used the colours red and blue because they represent blood, which is relevant to the body systems.  My company name is Kscience. K as in the initial of my first name (Kalyani). I have used heart beat which also represents the body systems. Then I have used the atom symbol to represent that our body is made up of atoms. I also have a catch phrase that quotes "always question, always wonder'. This shows that kids should be curious and explore all sorts of things. I think that the colour, font and the overall format that I used makes the logo look professional.

S.W.O.T. Analysis

Design Brief

From the Interview with Ms.Lubnah , Questionnaire with the students of 5LI and the research that I have done I have decided to:
  • Include a quiz at the end of my animation lesson.
  • The topics for my animation in going to be skeletal system, digestive system and respiratory system.
  • The animations and quiz is only going to be used by 5LI and not any other classes.
  • My second target audience would be any other person outside. the school that would like to use it for learning purposes.
  • The animation and the quiz will only be programmed by me
  • The quiz id going to be timed.
  • The animation and quiz can only be accessed from scratch.
  • It is a non paid game and doesn't need to be downloaded.
  • The game can only be accessed whilst using internet.
  • The quiz is not a multiplayer game.
  • After the lesson and the quiz the students will get a feedback for that they would have to fill to see what response I get and how I can improve further.
  • All students will get little prizes and the top 3 students with the best scores for the quiz will win a certificate and medal.
  • The questions on with quiz will be multi-choice and with be timed as well.
